Video Production for Educational Institutions | University Promo Videos

Videos are an essential tool of any educational institution’s marketing strategy.

In a highly competitive market and with the lucrative foreign student fee, the importance of excellent video content is a top priority.

With undergraduate programs, the audience is typically the school leaver who may have a few people involved in their decision around which institution to attend.  And this forms a very critical part of content strategy. Is a ‘one size fits all’ the way to go or specific, audience focused videos? For example, is the video speaking to the late teens school student or the parent?  The all in one video showcasing the university’s top faculties might be great for the parents, but the student may start to switch off to some of the key messages because of the presentation of those messages, specifically, it’s tone.

Maybe it’s a good idea to make a ‘Why Us’ video for parents and a separate one for the student, the same message in both but each is made completely differently to engage the different audiences.

There is so much information to cram in a matter of a minute or several minutes. The faculties, the achievements, the facilities, the teaching staff, the location, successful students, student life, student support services, the successful graduates working in various organisations around the city and country and overseas.   How do you showcase the Business Faculty and the Engineering Faculty into the short durations associated with online video attention spans?

The better videos split up the various key selling points into individual videos, with the audience in mind.  Individual videos with a little more depth are more interesting to potential students or parents, who then respond better to a stronger message about what’s important to them. For example, a dedicated video on a particular Science faculty, highlighting top research staff would be of more interest to the science student evaluating that faculty.

Showcase your resources such as your campus or campuses.  Utilising creative cinematic techniques, impress your viewers with your grounds, your buildings, your classrooms, the social areas, the student accommodation and the like.  The best way to showcase these is to show them in use.

The process for making videos is essentially:

1.Planning
This the ‘pre-production’ phase. Identifying your content and audience are usually the starting point.  Our team works with our education clients in the areas of concept, scriptwriting, storyboards, casting and choosing the best locations for your video.

2.Shooting
Known as the ‘production’ phase, our film crew shoot your content in stunning high definition using creative cinematography.

3.Editing
T
his is the ‘post production’ phase of your video.  The footage is ingested into the editing suite and the various takes are cut to form the story.  Motion graphics can be added to impress. Sound engineering ensures the audio comes out nice and clean. Grading, which is color treatment of the footage, takes the video from plain to rich.
